Fire drills of Chengdu Anmake Company were successfully conducted
Safety is the basis of the work and development of an enterprise. Chengdu Anmeike is engaged in the development and production of gas generator sets and gas power equipment sets. Production areas, electrical rooms, laboratories, testing shops and offices have different hazards, causes of fires and extinguishing methods. To fulfill its industrial safety responsibilities and improve the emergency response skills of its personnel, the company organized comprehensive comprehensive fire drills: separate action plans were prepared for each zone, and practice was carried out on working with all types of fire extinguishers.
I. Specialized training: separating risk areas and selecting appropriate response measures
Before the start of the exercise, the safety officer conducted targeted training taking into account the hazards of each area of the enterprise, examining the rules for fighting fires in different zones.
Production and testing workshops
Risk: prolonged operation of equipment at high temperatures, leakage of lubricants, overload and short circuit of cable connections, which causes combined fires of oil products and electrical equipment. Response measures: immediately turn off the main power supply to the site, shut off the oil supply shut-off valves, evacuate personnel, do not extinguish hot equipment with water.
Electrical control and distribution rooms
Risk: Cable overload, electrical short circuit, live fire may cause electric shock and secondary explosion. Response measures: remotely turn off the power supply, personnel maintain a safe isolation distance, it is prohibited to extinguish with water, use only insulating fire extinguishing agents.
Petroleum products storage warehouse
Risk: accumulation of flammable liquids (lubricants, antifreeze), rapid spread of flame, re-ignition of flowing flammable liquids. Response measures: block the spread of flammable liquids, cover the fire with a fire-retardant blanket to block the access of oxygen, stop the spread of the flame.
Administrative and office area
Risk: fire of office equipment, extension cords, paper documentation; the main threat is crush during evacuation. Response measures: quickly turn off power to the area, organize an orderly low-movement evacuation of personnel, extinguish the initial outbreak with a portable fire extinguisher from the nearest access.
II. Familiarization with fire equipment: delimitation of areas of use of fire extinguishers to eliminate the risk of improper use
During the training, the rules for using all types of fire equipment were demonstrated, the types of fires for which they are suitable were determined, in order to prevent the situation from worsening due to errors when extinguishing:
- Powder fire extinguisher: a universal product, suitable for extinguishing oil fires in production areas, fires of electrical equipment and solid flammable substances in warehouses, covers most production areas of the enterprise;
- Carbon dioxide fire extinguisher: has insulating properties, leaves no residue, designed for electrical control rooms and precision equipment, does not damage precision parts after extinguishing;
- Fire-retardant blanket: used in case of fire of small containers with oil and local spills of flammable fuel, quickly covers the fire to stop the access of oxygen, mandatory emergency equipment for petroleum product warehouses;
- Fire hose: Suitable only for extinguishing fires of wood and other solids in the office area, it is strictly prohibited to use on burning live equipment and ignited petroleum products.
All employees took turns completing practical exercises, mastered the standard algorithm “lift, pull the pin, direct the nozzle, press the lever,” and examined the limits of use of each equipment. The personnel learned to identify danger, choose the right fire fighting equipment and competently extinguish the fire.
III. Full-scale practical exercises, simulating the full cycle of emergency actions
As part of the exercise, a simultaneous fire in several zones was simulated; all stages were clearly distributed between groups and carried out smoothly. After the alarm is given, those on duty immediately report the coordinates of the fire, and the emergency team begins to act according to the plan for this area. The cordon group blocks the dangerous area and turns off the power supply. The evacuation team directs personnel to a safe exit: people move hunched over, covering their nose and mouth, and gather in an orderly manner in an open area. Extinguishers select the appropriate extinguisher based on the type of area and extinguish the initial source of the fire.
The exercises are as close as possible to real production conditions and are not limited to standard scenarios. The principle of “a separate plan for each zone, a separate means for each type of fire” has been implemented, which eliminates the problem of personnel’s inability to identify zone risks and choose the right fire equipment.
IV. Analysis and summing up, formation of a permanent safety control system
After the completion of the exercise, management assessed the zonal training, identified weaknesses in the response algorithms and formulated further safety requirements:
- Conduct regular zone fire drills, alternating special drills for production areas, distribution areas, warehouses and offices.
- Regularly inspect fire equipment in all areas, equip each area with suitable fire extinguishers, and monitor their serviceability.
- Constantly conduct zonal information campaigns on safety so that knowledge about actions in case of fire and the rules for using equipment is reinforced in each employee.
Prevent fires before they occur, ensure safety through attention to detail. Chengdu Anmake will continue to implement a detailed fire safety system distinguished by zones and types of risks.
